For my applied project I plan to create a brochure filled with helpful tips on ADHD and what lifestyle choices that lessen symptoms of ADHD. I plan to present this brochure to residential life and accessibility services staff members with the goal that they will make it available to students.
I want to do this because I have ADHD and learning about it through my courses at PSU has helped me develop a better understanding of the disorder and coping mechanisms. As a freshman, I wish there had been more resources and support for me, so I want to create that for future students.
I am doing my research article on a related topic, so I plan to use the research I find to back up the facts on my brochure. This project represents my interdisciplinary studies learning as it is a multidimensional idea. My
My interdisciplinary studies program is integrated health sciences, which looks at all of the aspects of health including physical, psychological, social & emotional. This project is representative of my program as I am taking on this project through the interdisciplinary lens of health. I am not just looking at one aspect of ADHD, I am looking at it from multiple angles. In a general health major, this project might be on what medication is best for people who have ADHD, whereas I am looking at the individual and things that they can control in everyday life to improve their symptoms, medication or not.
Time management is crucial for my plan as in order to make this a success, there are other people that need to be on board.

I will be writing a research article about the effects of sleep and nutrition on ADHD. Through my research I hope to find identify what aspects of sleep and nutrition negatively impact ADHD symptoms and the lifestyle choices that can potentially reduce them. I want to reach people who suffer from ADHD and their families, those who professionally support them.
I plan to do my article in the form of a meta analysis. My goal will be to look at the the evidence that sleep and nutrition have an impact on ADHD and the lifestyle choices that can be made to improve the symptoms.
Questions that are going to guide my research are what is ADHD, the effects of nutrition on the body and mind, the effects of sleep on the body and mind, and the relationship between nutrition, sleep, and ADHD.
Some key terms I will use in my research are ADHD, nutrition, sleep, effects of nutrition on mental disorders, effects of nutrition on attention, effects of sleep on attention, sleep studies, foods that are used as tools to reduce anxiety, lifestyle choices of ADHD, how to improve symptoms of ADHD.
The two possible library databases I will be using are the academic search premiere and psycARTICLES.
Organization is my specialty, so creating a game plan / timeline is the fun part!
A few sources that I have found for my article are Do Diet & Nutrition Affect ADHD? Facts & Clinical Considerations and Nutrition, immunological mechanisms and dietary Immunomodulation in ADHD
The way that my research article can be assessed is if I have successfully addressed each aspect of my research topic and came to a supported conclusion.
